October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. CBS Radio St. Louis and the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine have teamed up to Light the Town Pink!
Purchase a pink light bulb to place in your porch light at home or recruit your business to light up their windows pink. Proceeds benefit the Young Women's Breast Cancer Program and screening mammogram services at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
The Young Women's Breast Cancer Program (YWBCP) began in 2001 at the Siteman Cancer Center and Washington University in St. Louis. We partner with young survivors to implement strategies that meet the age-relevant needs of young women. Working together, we believe positive change is possible.
The Young Women's Breast Cancer Program:
- Offers support and education programs
- Organizes fun, health-focused activities
- Selects young survivors to serve as a peer advisors and pairs them with young women recently diagnosed with breast cancer
- Produces written materials for women who are newly diagnosed and young survivors
- Raises awareness regarding the unique issues facing women diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age
- Conducts research focused on early onset breast cancer
